Stericycle Communication Solutions announced that Senior Vice President of Communication Solutions Matt Dickson was selected as a winner for Healthcare Communicator of the Year in Ragan's and PR Daily's Communicators of the Year and Rising Star Awards, Class of 2021. The award acknowledges the HIPAA-compliant communication solutions Dickson and his team developed throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to help healthcare providers engage patients and drive access, action and adherence at a time when many patients delayed routine care.
Ragan's and PR Daily's Communicators of the Year & Rising Star Awards recognize the industry's best individual communications practitioners and teams. Winners surpassed their organizations' and clients' expectations in a variety of categories.
"Applying a combination of artificial intelligence (AI), data tools, and a human touch, Dickson and his team have developed methods for Stericycle's customers to use to engage with patients," commented Ragan and PR Daily. "With the pandemic kneecapping healthcare communications, Dickson led efforts to promote telehealth and emergency department scheduling, virtual check-in, patient hotlines, self-guided triage, classes and events, and payments. These new features combined with the best of human communication and online self-service, help healthcare providers attract new patients while retaining existing ones, fill schedules, reduce no-show rates, and improve access to care."
Along with these capabilities, Dickson and Stericycle Communication Solutions offered patients clear communication about next steps for COVID-19 vaccination, including online scheduling, pre-arrival and check-in instructions, FAQ hotlines, and chat services as well as its multi-lingual and multi-channel functionalities. These technologies and strategies were noted as reasons why Dickson was honored with this award.
"I am honored by this recognition and so proud of the collaborative work of my team to keep patients informed and engaged in their health during the pandemic," Dickson said. "Through innovative technology and a deep understanding of human behavior and patient expectations, we have seen how an untold number of people including those who live in poverty, minorities, the elderly, and people with low technology literacy can and need to access healthcare information, resources, and care, especially during a global health crisis."
